FranCœur is a major event in the Canadian television landscape: it's the first time that a francophone dramatic television series is produced outside Québec. By embarquing on this adventure, TFO, in co-production with Les Productions R. Charbonneau Inc., is gambling that they can offer their dedicated francophone and francophile listeners an entertaining series of high quality, with a budget while far from negligeable for TFO, is still limited for a project of this scope.
FranCœur tells the story of a young seductor, Luc Francœur, torn between his personal ambitions and the harsh reality of modern dairy farming. In this small Eastern Ontario town where there are no secrets, we see many families go about their daily routine; whether the characters provoke their destiny or are victims of circumstances, their paths continually cross simply because they live in a tight-knit community.
As in any family, each person has his or her own personality and history, a mix which sometimes becomes explosive, as unforseen events exacerbate situations or expose deeply hidden secrets. Each episode brings new challenges and threatens to tip the whole thing over... but life goes on.
FranCœur is a magnificently filmed story which tugs at the heart strings. It doesn't pretend to be an exact picture of rural life in Ontario, as some of the characters border on caricatures. However, it is the reflection of a certain reality in the life of Franco-Ontarians, who will know how to recognise what is theirs. The series was filmed in and around the town of Alfred, in the United Counties of Prescott et Russell. The beautiful scenery of this picturesque region, about halfway between Ottawa and Montréal, is featured by a filming which favors exterior scenes.
